Georgia Executes Female Inmate

Kelly Gissendaner was put to death earlier today. The Georgia woman was sentenced after being convicted of the 1997 murder of her husband.

Gissendaner is the first female to be executed in Georgia in more than 70 years.

The death row inmate made a final statement before being executed for her role in stabbing death of husband Douglas Gissendaner.

She apologized “to an amazing man that lost his life because of me." Death by lethal injection was her punishment.

Raise a Cup for National Coffee Day


Coffee lovers are heading to their favorite java joints in celebration of National Coffee Day. 

Starbucks stopped their customers short but announcing they are not handing out gratis coffee today. According to their website, the nation’s largest coffee house launched its "Starbucks One Tree for Every Bagcommitment today. Starting today, Starbucks will donate a coffee plant for every bag of coffee purchased at participating U.S. stores. The program will continue through September 2016.

Thankfully, Starbucks isn’t the only game in town. Atlanta coffee lovers have many options for getting their caffeine high for free this National Coffee Day.

Starbucks unconventional approach to National Coffee Day won't stop Atlanta coffee lovers from celebrating. Atlanta based Krispy Kreme was serving up coffee and original glazed doughnuts; all
for FREE. Krispy Kreme awards members get double points with purchase on today with the purchase of any coffee drink.

Dunkin’ Donuts: Customers can get a free medium cup of Dunkin’ Donuts hot or iced dark roast coffee, with a one-per guest limit at participating locations.

Panera Bread: Rewards members have been able to score a free coffee every day of September, so that deal will still be in place for National Coffee Day.

Whole Foods: Stores nationwide are offering 12-ounce cups of coffee for $0.25 through September.

Caribou Coffee: Instead of giving people free coffee, for every cup of Amy’s Blend coffee purchased on Sept. 29, Caribou will donate a cup of coffee to nurses and families in cancer centers throughout the country.

Midtown welcomes the Taste of Atlanta to Tech Square. The three day long festival started on Friday, September 25th and runs through Sunday, September 27th. 
Taste of Atlanta temps taste buds!

Atlanta Provides Warming Stations During Artic Blast

Atlanta has been under attack from gusty winds, snow and frigid temperatures in the low teens. 

Many metro Atlanta schools and  business are closed as the city braces for the worse part of the southern storm.  Two term Atlanta Mayor Kassim Reed has made preparations to keep Atlanta's more vulnerable citizens safe as temperature dip below freezing. 

Mayor Kassim Reed's office in conjunction with the Department of Parks and Recreation, opened the Old Adamsville Recreation Center as a temporary emergency shelter to provide warmth and sleeping cots for Atlanta residents.

Old Adamsville Recreation Center at 3304 Delmar Lane, SW, will be open from 8 p.m. on Monday, February 10th until further notice.

Gov. Nathan Deal declared a state of emergency for disaster preparedness.

Bobbi Kristina Brown Moved to Emory

Bobby Kristina Brown is transferred to Emory University Hospital in hopes of getting the best care for her condition.

The 21 year-old remains on life support, clinging to life after being found face down in her tub and unresponsive. Brown, the only child of legendary songstress Whitney Houston with Bobby Brown, was discoved on by Nick Gordon the man that she referred to as her husband.

Her father rushed to be by her side after learning of her condition on Sunday.

"Bobbi Kristina is fighting for her life and is surrounded by immediate family," a family statement said Monday. "We are asking you to honor our request for privacy during this difficult time. Thank you for your prayers, well wishes, and we greatly appreciate your continued support."
